Preface

The inaugural International Engineering and Technology Education Conference was held at Taylor's University, (Selangor), Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in January 2011. The foundation of IETEC lies in the fundamentals of fostering cooperation between a wide range of stakeholders of engineering and technology education to facilitate educational policy developments, learning, teaching and research that will help enhance 21st century skills for global engineers and technologists.

IETEC 13 is the 2nd in the series for this international conference and held at the University of Technical Education, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The approach to cooperation and collaboration is once again evident in IETEC'13 which was jointly organised by a consortium of universities composing of the host university, the University of Technical Education Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, CQUniversity Australia, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Tomsk Polytechnic University, Russia and Deakin University Australia. The conference set-up included not only research and practice paper sessions but, keynote addresses, interactive workshops and panel discussions. In addition, facilities were provided for group meetings and one-on-one interaction of the participants to discuss issues of engineering and technology education and to network with conference participants and organisations. IETEC 13 also managed to secure National Instruments and Texas Instruments as the main exhibitors for the conference.

This year's theme on Enhancing Global Engineering and Technology Education: Meeting the Future, is timely as this conference delved into the fundamental role of engineering and technology education in the economies of the world. The papers and sessions at the conference also deliberated on the impact of the highly interdisciplinary nature of new technologies, and the impact of cyber-infrastructure in engineering education, research and development.

Approximately 120 participants from countries covering the Asia Pacific, North and South America, Europe, the Indian sub-continent and the Middle East regions had the opportunity to interact and discuss concepts, ideas and practices at the conference. The conference stimulated highly productive discussion and reflection. This publication is but one outcome of the conference. All papers contained in the Proceedings were presented at the conference and were refereed (double blind) by independent peer referees.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all contributors for submitting significant and quality papers. Special thanks to our reviewers, sponsors, supporters, exhibitors, conference speakers and special guests who have made this event a great success! We look forward to assembling again in 2015.
